Distinct Architectural Themes

Your choice for better living

Secord’s architecture incorporates the best of Edmonton’s established neighbourhoods, but adds its own memorable personality with four distinct architectural styles: Prairie, Craftsman, Classical and Arts & Crafts.

Prairie Style

Frank Lloyd Wright developed this style in the early years of the last century. Suited to the distinctive landscape of the prairies, this architectural style reflects the dynamic, expansive spirit of the Alberta landscape and its seemingly limitless horizon, long days of clear, bright sun and a rich subtle palette of colours.

Craftsman Collection

Popularized at the turn of the 20th century, the Craftsman spirit is alive in Secord where it represents structural simplicity, efficient use of space and understated, traditional style. The Craftsman tradition grew in the United States around the turn of the century at the same time as the Arts & Crafts movement began to thrive in England.

Classical

The Classical style dates back to the earliest source of western architecture. Created originally by the great architects of Greece and Rome, it has been used and modified continually in the centuries since, and continues to attract us today. Using symmetrical forms and refined details, the Classical architecture is a compelling expression of confidence and dignity.

Arts and Crafts

The Arts & Crafts movement arose in the late 19th century in Britain artists and designers seeking an alternative to mechanized production looked to the ancient crafts traditions for inspiration. With the picturesque charm of the English country cottage as a starting point, today’s Arts and Crafts architecture features varied form and simple detailing, expressing a connection with the surrounding natural environment.
